Imanyo Golf Society Phil Ward Carers Cup 4th December at Vistabella

Another great day for golf and after a very late change of golf course we welcomed first time players Ian Bell Ronnie King and Antonio Gallud.

We should have played at Font Del Llop but due to torrential rain the night before the course had to be closed due to flooding. We all turned up to Imanyo’s for breakfast as usual and naturally everybody was disappointed that the game had to be cancelled. Eamon suggest trying to book at Vistabella as this course drains very well so by 9 o’clock we had arranged tee times at Vistabella where we found the staff very accommodating.

Believe it or not the weather was perfect for golf, although some of the bunkers were hard and puddled due to the rain. Most of our members were playing the course for the first time which was in good condition considering the rain the night before, they said if you like a challenge this course provides it as there are many large areas of fairway, bunkers with bunkers all round the greens. (The motto is if you like sand this is the course for you).

The format was full handicap Stableford and scores were close. The winner was Eamon Murphy with 28 points, runner up Steve Day with 26 points and the endeavour award went to Antonio Garcia Gallud with 6 points, this was the first time he had been on a golf course and only had a couple of lessons not bad hey. The only player to get nearest the pin was Carol Murphy on the 8th. The cup was presented by Margaret Ward to Eamon Murphy back at Imanyo’s Bar.

Imanyo Golf Society Dave Rotchell Birthday Trophy 25th November at El Plantio

Another great day for golf, we were a lot larger in numbers and welcomed first time players Charlie Keates, Bob Waite, Dave Jolly, Brian Court and Roy Casnello.

The weather was great, sunshine all day and the temperature was most pleasant (just over 70 degrees). Some of our members played the course for the first time which is very similar to an English course, greens and fairways were in good condition though we had trouble finding a couple of tees as they were felling trees and there was no signage where to go!

The format was Texas scramble pairs with a blind draw for partners with both full handicaps added together. The scores were so close for the seven pairings that it took count back to find runners up who in the end were only one point behind the winners. The winners were Andy Ramage and Alan Byrne with 43 points, runners up were (Minty) Phil Ward and Brian Court with 44 points who just pipped Judy Evans and Charlie Keats to the post on count back. The only player to get nearest the pin was Eamon Murphy on the 9th.

Imanyo Golf Society Competition 6th November at Alenda Golf Complex

Yet another great day where a good time was had by all, we were a bit larger in numbers but I am pleased to say that future dates are gradually filling up.

The weather was great, sunshine all day but a slight wind and the temperature was most pleasant (just over 70 degrees).  The course was played for the first time by some of our members and they found lush green fairways and the greens in great condition.  Minty (Phil Ward) sent his apologies that he could not play because he slipped in a field of mint and strained his arm.

The Ladies showed the Gents how to play this course the winner was Carol Murphy with 28 points, runner up was Judy Evans on 27, the Endeavour award went to Ann Adams with 16 points who has not played golf since 1998 not bad hey men? Judy Evans won 2 nearest the pins on holes 3 and 16 and the only gent to win something was Dave Rotchell with nearest the pin on the 13th.

Imanyo Golf Society Competition 22nd October at Font Del Llop

Yet another great day where a good time was had by all, we were small in numbers but I am pleased to say that future dates are gradually filling up.

The weather was great, sunshine all day but the temperature was most pleasant.  The course was played for the first time by some of our members and they found it most interesting and said you can call it a thinking person’s course

The winner was Alan Byrne with 34 points, runner up was Andy Speck on 29.

José Domingo Garcia Gallud Memorial Cup

We played our first cup competition on 9th October at Marquesa golf course.  We had a good turn out by players for our first competition, the weather was hot and the course was set to its maximum limits with the tees right back, greens and fairways in good condition.

A good time was had by all with the presentation held at Imanyo Disco Bar, in Daya Neuva, with Antonio García Gallud and his Dad Antonio García Gea presenting the cup to Chris Baillie in memory of his brother, José Domingo García Gallud, who sadly passed away in July 1996.

The Endeavour award was won by Ian Newton 9 points, the runner up was won by Alex Porteous on 27 points and the winner was Chris Baillie on 28 points.
