Ted Adams Trophy

12th November

Ted was one of our founder members but sadly he passed away so many thanks to Ann Adams and family for their continued sponsorship and support, this is the 11th year we have played for Ted’s trophy.

This was our last but one society competition of the year and it’s going down to the wire for the player of the year in groups A & B. We played at Alicante where the course was in very good condition although most of the tee boxes had been moved forward. The day started off chilly so some players had the trousers back on. Once the sun was out we had a pleasant 72 degrees again perfect for golf, the format for the day was full handicap Stableford split into two groups with an overall winner.

Winner of the Ted Adams Trophy from group B was Steve Marr score of 46 points, runner up was “Sat Nav” Steve Day with 42 points and third place went to “Flying Scotsman” Andy Ramage with 41 points, all handicap cutting scores.  Winner of group A was Michael O’Keeffe with 40 points, runner up was “Lion” John Fairbrass with 37 points and third place went to “He’s on Fire” Steve Burn with 32 points. Nearest the pin’s winners were group A hole 5 Michael O’Keeffe, hole 9 Ray Hamilton and hole 17 “Footsie” Lee George, group B hole 6 no winner, hole 14 Steve Marr and hole 18 Andy Ramage. Best front nine on count back with Paul Jones went to Tom Goulden with 20 points and best back nine went to “The Mighty Quinn” Kevin Quinn with 19 points. The Two’s pot was shared between Brian Gordon hole 3 and Lee George on hole 12, both downing in two shots winning €7.50 each. The doubles match play final score was Gary Hill and Steve Burns beating Andy Godfrey and Kevin Quinn 4 & 3.

The Football card was won by Kenny Dow with Sunderland winning €40 so raising €40 for our chosen charities of 2025.

We would like to thank Kellie, Katie and staff at Sheerin’s for great hospitality.

Winner of the “Denise Tyrrell Plaque” from group A on count back with winner from group B was “Twelve Trees” Steve Ayre with a score of 39 points, runner up was “Watch This Drive” Andy Godfrey with a score of 35 points and third place was “Mr Amstel” Peter Kelly with 32 points. St Patrick's Shield

19th March

This was our tenth year of the St Patricks Shield and we thank “Sir” Ronnie King for continuing his sponsorship on behalf of the Irish. The format was full handicap Stableford split into two groups with one overall winner. As usual everything was ready and waiting for us at Alicante Golf but after the torrential rain from the last two weeks, which only stopped twelve hours before we played, the course was in a very bad state, as expected, there were man-made lakes on some of the fairways and all the bunkers were washed out, buggy’s only allowed on the pathways and many areas very slippy under foot, as found out by a few players, the weather was back where it should be, warm and sunny with 22 degrees but it was just a pleasure to get out and play golf.

Winner of the “St Patrick’s Shield” came from group A on count back with Peter Kelly and was “Ding Dong” Ian Bell with 37 points, runner up was Peter Kelly with 37 points and third place went to Ray Hamilton with 33 points. Group B winner was Keith James with 36 points, runner up was “Flying Scotsman” Andy Ramage with 34 points and third place was John Clark with 33 points. Los Amigos Cup

5th February

This is the seventh year we have played for this cup, sadly Tony Whyatt passed away six years ago but fellow members and friends Andy Godfrey and Alan Martin have taken the sponsorship in Tony’s memory.

This was our first visit this season to Font Del Llop, the course was in reasonable condition considering the time of year. The weather was excellent for golf, with the earlier tee off at 10 o’clock it was a cold start but once the sun got to work it was a pleasant 22 degrees and pure sun. We played Tony’s favourite team format which he developed with four players in a team changing partners every 6 holes scoring with the better ball Stableford points.

Seven teams took part in a very tight scoring competition with only 6 points between third and first places, the eventual winners of the Los Amigos Cup, winning by one point, were Steve Burns, Andy Godfrey, Paul Owen and Tricia Lambie with 90 points, runners up were Graham Lambie, Dave Martin, Paul Davison and Kevin Quinn with 89 points. All the nearest the pins were won, group A  hole 2 Gary Hill, hole 9 Andy Godfrey and hole 16 Steve Gain, group B hole 7 Nick Chambers, holes 13 and 17 Kevin Quinn, best front 9 went to Paul Owen with 25 points and best back 9 went to Dave Martin with 22 points, the two’s pot of €15 was shared between Paul Davison, Graham Lambie and Dave Martin with €5 being carried forward on behalf of Dave Martin to the next competition making the twos pot €20.

The football card was won by Steve Gain with Ipswich winning €40 and raising €40 for this year’s charities 2025.

This is the first sponsored competition of 2025.  The Scottish Cup (Quaich) has been sponsored by our Scottish friends Donald Main and Chris Baillie since 2015, unfortunately Chris could not make the competition this year. The course at Alicante was in reasonable condition apart from all the work being carried out on the front nine tee boxes and fairways. For the players in the UK the weather was 22 degrees with plenty of sun when the clouds had disbursed and a few players still wore shorts. The format was blind draw doubles scoring Stableford points with both individual scores added together.

Winner of “The Scottish Cup” (Quaich) was “Lord” Gain and “Ladie” Lambie with a score of 75 points, runners up were “Fruit Farmer” Tom Goulden and Steve Hopkins with 74 points and third place went to “Usain Bolt” John Bolt and “Lion” John Fairbrass with 70 points. Group A nearest the pin’s winners were holes 5 and 8 “Usain Bolt” John Bolt and hole 14 Gary Hill, group B winners were holes 12 and 18 Kevin Quinn and hole 9 “Mr Celtic” Brian Gordon. Best front 9 with both scores added together went to Kevin Quinn and Brian Gordon with 36 point, best back 9 was Brian Court and Graham Lambie with 32 points, the two’s pot of €15 was shared between (He’s nearly on Fire) Steve Burns on hole 16 and “Usain Bolt” John Bolt on hole 8.
