Scottish Cup

21st January

The Scottish Cup (Quaich) has been sponsored by our Scottish friends Donald Main and Chris Baillie since 2015, unfortunately Chris could not make the competition this year. Only 17 players took part as many players went down with Man Flu. The course at Alicante was in reasonable condition and for the players in the UK the weather was 21 degrees with plenty of sun when the clouds had disbursed and one player still wore shorts. The format was Stapleford singles split into two groups.

Winner of “The Scottish Cup” (Quaich) from group B was “Temu” Kim Patrick with a score 41 points, runner up was “Eagle” Paul Jones with 40 points and third place went to “The Mighty Quinn” Keven Quinn with 38 points. Group A winner was “Lion” John Fairbrass with 36 points runner up on count back went to “He’s on Fire” Steve Burns with 34 points and third place was “Twelve Trees” Steve Ayre also with 34 points, nearest the pin’s winners were group A hole 3 Steve Ayre, hole 9 Norman Carhill and hole 13 Steve Gain, group B winners were hole 8 Kevin Quinn, hole 10 Donald Main and hole 18 Steve Day. Best front 9 went to Brian Gordon with 22 points, best back 9 went to Steve Day also with 22 points, the two’s pot of €45 was not won so it carries over to the next game making the new total €60.

The winner of the football card was Kevin Quinn with Sunderland winning €40 and raising €40 for our 2026 charities.

We would like to thank Kellie, Katie and staff for their great hospitality.  Photo shows Donald Main presenting the Quaich to winner Kim Patrick.

Ey Up Challenge Cup

7th January

It was a fantastic day for our new sponsor Simon Dakers who flew in especially to play in his competition.

The first game of the Sheerin’s 2026 season started with the traditional full English breakfast 22 players took part and the format was full handicap Stableford playing in two groups with an overall winner.

On arrival at Font Del Llopp, we received the usual friendly greeting from the caddy master and his team with everything ready and waiting, the course was in good condition from tee boxes to the flag considering the amount of rain we had from the three previous days, the weather on the day was blue skies and a temperature of 12 degrees and a strong chilly wind which blew the Christmas and New Year cobwebs away.

Overall winner from group A was the 2025 player of the year John Bolt with a score of 35 points, runner up was Ray Muttock with 32 points and third place was Michael O’Keeffe with 29 points. Group B winner was John Clarke with 29 points, runner up on count back was Tom Goulden with 28 points and third place Brian Gordon also with 28 points. There were six nearest the pins, group A, hole 2 John Bolt, hole 12 Andy Godfrey, hole 18 Steve Ayre, group B hole 5 Brian Gordon, hole 10 no winner and hole 16 Mike Sharlot. Best front 9 went to Gary Hill with 15 points and best back 9 Colin Smyth with 17 points, the two’s pot on hole 8 was not won so will be carried over to the next game with a pot of €45.

Thank you to Simon Dakers for providing all the prizes, also thank you to Kellie, Katie and staff at Sheerin’s for the great hospitality.

The football card was won with Notts Forest by Simon Dakers winning €40 and raising €40 for our charities 2026.
