Ted Adams Trophy 9th December at Roda

This was the first time we played for this trophy and many thanks to Ted and Ann Adams for sponsoring the day, their son even came over especially to play in this competition and guess who won?

We had a good turnout for our first visit to Roda where the course was in great condition.  A few of our higher handicappers found some of the holes tough but we still had a great days golf. We played full handicap stableford and we did a blind draw at the end on four holes to double points which made it interesting.

Winner of the ”Ted Adams Trophy” was Neil Adams with 39 points, runner up was Brian Court with 35 points, the Endevor award went to our favourite golfer, Phil Minty Ward, I shall not mention how many points he had. Three nearest the pins were won by our regular nearest the pin experts, hole 5 in 3 shots Alan Ralph, hole 8 in 2 shots Brian Court, and hole 16 in 2 shots by Alan Byrne.

The football card was won by Neil Adams with Blackpool winning €20 and raising €20 for this year’s charity, Caritas Daya Nueva.

We would like to thank Antonio, Norma and staff at Imanyo Bar for the fantastic food and great hospitality.

Burns night on the 25th January has sold out but there are a few spaces left for the golf at Altorreal (The Scottish Cup).

Dave Rotchell Birthday Trophy 25th November at Altorreal

This was the second time around for this Trophy and many thanks to Dave Rotchell for sponsoring the day.

We had defending winners, Alan Byrne and Andy Ramage here to see if they could repeat the success they had last year, we were odd in numbers therefore I managed to persuade our photographer, Harry the Lens, to play as we were playing Texas Scramble and needed even numbers.  Seven pairs played, this was only Harry’s second game played in Spain but I was the fortunate one as I paired with Harry and we won by one point.  Alan Byrne and Andy Ramage were runners up on count back with two other pairs.

Winners of the ”Dave Rotchell Trophy” were Steve Day and Harry Goldsmith with 44 points, runners up were Alan Byrne and Andy Ramage with 45 points on count back, also on 45 points were Alan Rodger and Wendy Ralph and Donald Main and Mick Billins, only two nearest the pins were won, hole 8 by Mick Billins and hole 17 by Alan Byrne.

The football card was won by Ronnie King with Southampton winning €20 and raising €20 for this year’s charity, Parkinson’s.

Due to Imayo’s being closed for holidays we relocated our breakfast to The Village Inn in Catral and the presentation afterwards was held at the Parroquia Bar in Daya Nueva, we received fantastic hospitality from both venues.

Phil Ward Carers Cup 4th November at Altorreal

This is the second time this cup has been played for, many thanks to Phil and Margaret Ward for sponsoring the day. We had defending winner, Eamon Murphy, playing off a lower handicap than last year and he just managed to retain it by winning on count back.

We all arrived early at Imanyo’s where the day started with the traditional full English breakfast.  The format was full handicap stableford and we held a blind drawn for four holes for double points after the games were completed.

On arriving at the course we found Antoinio and staff, as usual, very accommodating. Over Sunday and Monday they had heavy rain which washed the bunkers out, but by the time we arrived on Wednesday 90% had been repaired, great work by the ground staff. The weather was perfect for golf although some of the men wore trousers for the first time.

Winner of the ”Phil Ward Carers Cup” was Eamon Murphy with 36 points on count back, runner up was Donald Main with 36 points, the Endeavour award went to Mo Chaplin, but we won’t mention how many points, only three nearest the pins were won, hole 2 Eamon Murphy, hole 5 Brian Court and hole 14 Donald Main.

This is the first time this cup has been played for and thanks to Alan and Wendy Ralph for sponsoring the day.

The day could of been cancelled as at about 7.15am I received two Emails from “Bill and Ben the Weathermen” saying that the rain was going to be around all day and to think about cancelling, well it turned out by the time we left Imanyo’s the rain had stopped and it was a fantastic day for golf one of the Weathermen ended up winning with the other one getting runner up.

We all arrived early at Imanyo’s where the day started with the traditional full English breakfast.  The format was pairs full handicap stableford but we did a blind drawn for four holes for double points after the games were complete

On arriving at the course we found that we could not take buggies on the fairways which meant we had a lot of walking ahead, it would have been quicker pulling a trolley!

Winners of the” keep It In The Family” Ralph Cup was the Scottish pairing of Alan Rodger and Greame Forrest with 67 points, runners up were Alan Byrne and Graham Rumsey with 60 points, best single score was Ian Chetwynd with 42 points with doubles included and 35 without, the Endeavour award went to our photographer Harry Goldsmith, but we won’t mention how many points, only three nearest the pins were won, hole 9 Dave Goldsmith, hole 14 Chris Baillie and hole 18 Alan Rodger.

The day started as usual with breakfast at Imanyo's, the numbers are picking up but we still have members on holiday.

We welcomed new member Craig Justham and also back into the fold “I know the way” Brian Court, as last time when Brian decided to drive and take Ted Adams as co pilot to  Alenda they got lost, after a few phone calls from around the Alicante area Alan Ralph guided them in and they just made the tee time?

We played full handicap Stableford but selected 4 holes for double points. The day was won by “I’m playing very well” Alex Porteous  with 42 points, the 3 nearest the pins were won by our new member Craig Justham on hole numbers 5, 13 & 16 and nearest the pin hole 3 was won by “I know the way” Brian Court.

We then made our way back to Imanyo’s where there were a few drinks and a lovely meal waiting. The football card, Bristol City, was won by Steve Day who kindly donated the money back to the Parkinson’s charity.

Imanyo Golf Society Competition 30th June at Font Del Llop

A big difference in weather to our last game summer arrived with vengeance with temperatures in the 40’S. We were small in numbers but still had a great day with a couple of good scores. Due to the heavy rain a week or so before most of the bunkers were washed away and to add to his frustration (Sandy) Terry Burton must have landed in all but a few of them, but at least he came back with a full set of clubs and golf bag!
