Vacation Cup 8th - 10th October at Hotel Envia

For the second year of the Annual Vacation Cup we once again took a trip to La Envia golf course and Hotel in Almería. This comprised of 20 golfers and their wives with the 20 golfers divided into 2 teams to play a Ryder Cup format, the team captains were Steve Day (Chairman) and Mick Billins (Vice Chairman).

On day one we were treated to a wonderful breakfast before gathering on the hotel patio for the day’s pairs to be given their tee and start times, day one was full of surprises with plenty of passion shown on both sides, even to the point of a head being dislodged from its shaft!

The first day went the way of the Vice Chairman with one match on each side being won comfortably while the other three matches were very close leaving the Vice Chairman with a slender 3-2 lead.

The evening was filled with lively discussion accompanied by a few drinks and a fantastic buffet dinner before some early nights in preparation for the singles on the second day.

Day two commenced with a early hearty breakfast followed by team photos on the hotel patio...then it got serious, ten singles matches to play with a shotgun start.

As the scores started to be posted the match was looking very close with the first matches going to the Vice Chairman followed by several going to the Chairman, finally, once all the match results had been submitted it was clear the second day had gone to the Vice Chairman with a 6-4 score line on the day and an overall match score of 9-6 to the Vice Chairman’s team over turning last year’s result.

We must thank the wives of all the players that accompanied us for their support and patience with the golf fanatics. The hotel put on a superb trip for the wives to a local fruit, meat and fish market, this was conducted by Robert, the caddy master, who offered a huge amount of information on the local produce, this was followed by a tapas tour of a couple of bars in Almería, this was a new experience for a few and was reported to be a great day out and gave the golf widows a chance to get to know each other.

Jane and Steve day did a tremendous job in organising the 3 days away with everything going like clockwork.

Rivalry begins again next October.
