Jodie Lee Baxter Trophy 19th August at Font Del Llop
This was a one-off fund raiser trophy competition in aid of Jodie Lee Baxter. Through illness Jodie is currently reliant on a wheel chair, she is a young Mum of 3 and lives in a first floor apartment so is reliant on her husband (who works long hours) to carry her up and down stairs, despite this she remains positive and has helped many people with her constant information and help on the Daya Nueva Facebook page during the Covid situation and also during last Septembers floods, she has helped people get their passes to the village pool in the Town Hall and even put out an appeal for food for a family who were struggling. Currently Jodie’s husband is converting their garage (when he has time) to a living space so Jodie can come and go independently.
As a thank you for all her help Imanyo Golf Society and Imanyo Bar managed to raise a fantastic €750 through donations, fines for balls in the water, Imanyo’s sponsorship and a football card, this is going toward much needed help for Jodie.
We started with a full English breakfast in Imanyo’s, the format for the day was singles full handicap Stableford played in two groups.
On arrival at Font Del Llop we received a friendly and organised greeting from all the staff in a secure area where masks and sanitizer were in abundance, even sanitizer in the buggies. The course was in absolutely fantastic condition, the only difference to the competition under the new temporary rules is no rakes in the bunkers and you’re not allowed to touch the flags as they are fitted with a mechanism that stops the ball going all the way down the hole, as we are in the middle of summer the temperature was in the mid 30’s!
The overall winner of the Jodie Lee Baxter Trophy from group “B” with a block busting and handicap cutting 39 points was Gary Smith, runner up of group B was “Have ago Golfer” Steve Day with 32 points. Group “A” winner was the “On Fire” Steve Burns with a fantastic 38 points, runner up was “Twelve Trees“ Steve Ayre. Nearest the pins were won by hole 3 “On Fire” Steve Burns, hole 5 “Twelve Trees” Steve Ayre, holes 8 and 12 “The Joker” Mick Billins and hole13 Sean McGuinness, hole 17 New member Pete Kelly.
Thank you to everyone hopefully to make a big difference to Jodie’s life.

Los Amigos Cup 8th January at Alicante
This is the second year we have played for this cup with the day sponsored by Tony Whyatt, unfortunately Tony could not be with us so he sent his best mate Rupert Bear to do the presentation on his behalf.
We had a good turnout for our first competition of 2020 and on returning to Alicante golf after a twelve month gap we found the course in exceptional condition; it was a very cold start for the four teams with an hour delay due to the course being frosty, but as soon as the sun got to work the day was perfect for golf at a pleasant 70o. We played Tony’s favourite format which had four players in a team scoring with the better ball Stableford points.
Winners of the Los Amigos Cup were Martin Gadney, Steve Ayre, Mick Billins and Dave Sanders with 91 points, runners up were Alan Martin, Kenny Dow, Chris Baillie, and Tom Goulden with 76 points. Nearest the pins and longest drives, we called this the Alan Martin and Chris Houghton Show, with Alan Martin winning longest drives on holes 5 and 10 and nearest the pins holes 6 and 15 and Chris Houghton winning two nearest the pins on holes 3 and 12, winning the only other nearest the pin hole 8 was “The Wine Collector” Brian Court.
The football card was won by “Daya Nueva Mascot” Billy Jones with Leeds winning €40 and raising €40 for this year’s charities.
We would like to say a special thank you to Café-Bar Hogar Parroquial with Juan and his family making it a special day with their lovely welcome, fantastic hospitality and of course great food and of course thanks to Tony for supplying some fantastic prizes.
